Hello Freedom Seekers!
I’m David—a father, freelancer, and eBay seller. My journey hasn’t always been smooth, but I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors, including business owners who guided me during some tough times. Like many, my life wasn’t perfect growing up, but I always had ambition, and that drive kept me moving forward.
I got my start during the era of MySpace, the social network that dominated the scene back then. From 2005 to 2007, when I was just 15 to 17 years old, I was creating MySpace templates using Photoshop and basic CSS. That was my introduction to freelancing, and it opened my eyes to the potential of making money online.
Over the years, I’ve held a wide range of jobs—from front desk at a hotel to construction work in the Florida heat, and even working in warehouses. I found enjoyment in each role, but one thing I never liked was the feeling that a company owned my time. Time, I realized, isn’t just valuable—it’s priceless.
While I always freelanced on the side, it wasn’t until early 2024 that I fully committed to freelancing full-time, leaving the traditional 9-to-5 grind behind for good. Looking back, I see that it was those regular jobs that were holding me back. They consumed time I could’ve spent improving my skills, learning new ones, or, most importantly, being with my children.
Today, I make in a single day what used to take me an entire week. I don’t say this to brag—there are plenty of people out there earning much more than I do. I say it to show you that it’s possible. Anyone can learn a valuable skill and take control of their life. All you need is a laptop and an internet connection.
While I have three children, and my freedom may look different from others who can travel the world without a second thought, I still enjoy a level of freedom that many dream of. I can move to a new state or even a new country without worrying about my income. I can choose which clients I work with and turn down projects that don’t interest me.
And guess what? You can do this too.
Learn a skill—whether it’s writing, lead generation, website creation, or graphic design—and start offering your services to clients around the world. Platforms like LinkedIn, Fiverr, and Upwork make it easier than ever to get started.
Don’t wait. Think about the future version of yourself and where you want to be a year from now. Start working toward that person today.
So, what does being a freedom seeker mean to me?
It means being free to move anywhere I want to, without worrying about leaving or finding a new job. It means living life on my own terms, where every success, and every failure, is on me.
Until next time,
David
